Effortless is a free Chrome extension developed by iulspop that aims to improve focus and productivity while browsing the web. By asking users to clarify their focus and timebox their intentions, this extension helps reduce distractions and the need for conscious control.
As someone who has been using browsers for over a decade, I understand the constant struggle of staying focused while interacting with them. Effortless was born out of the desire to make it effortless to stay focused on the web. The developer realized that our brains excel at planning but often struggle with executing those plans, leading to interference and distractions.
The key to maintaining focus lies in setting clear goals. When you set a goal, your brain starts managing attention, memory, and sub-goals to help you take action. However, our brain's control over these functions is not always finely tuned, making it susceptible to interference in the form of distractions or interruptions.
Effortless assists your cognitive control abilities by prompting you to make your goal explicit when using the browser and setting a time box for that intention. When you visit a page without a goal set, the extension prompts you to enter your goal and the time you assign to it. Once your goal is set, a timer appears on the pages you visit, serving as a reminder. If you interrupt your goal and start a new one, you can simply click the "Interrupt" sidebar button. And when you complete your goal, clicking the "Complete" sidebar button prompts you to enter a new goal.
With Effortless, staying focused on a single goal until it's complete becomes easier, allowing you to enhance your productivity and reduce distractions while browsing the web.
